How to: Stems (Drums / Bass / Melody / Vocals transitions)
Stems split the outgoing track into four separated parts so you can transition each one independently — e.g. swap the bass, crossfade the vocals, keep the drums.
Where to find it: Stems live in the transition editor's Stems tab, not as a timeline lane.
Open a transition window, then click the Stems tab.
Steps
- Click a transition window to open the editor.
- Click the Stems category tab.
- Click 🎚 Separate stems. The outgoing track is split by an AI model (htdemucs). This takes
~1–3 minutes the first time and is cached — instant next time.
- When it finishes, four dropdowns appear: Drums · Bass · Melody · Vocals. For each, choose:
- Full — the stem stays present through the blend
- Crossfade — the stem fades out over the transition
- Swap — the stem hard-swaps out (incoming takes over)
- None — the stem is removed during the blend
- It applies live and bakes into Export.
Example moves
- Vocal ride: Vocals = Crossfade, everything else = Full → the outgoing vocal fades under the
incoming track cleanly.
- Bass swap by stem: Bass = Swap → the outgoing bassline drops out exactly on the switch while the
incoming bass takes over (tighter than an EQ bass-swap).
- Acapella-out: Drums/Bass/Melody = None, Vocals = Full → strip everything but the vocal on the way
out.
Notes
- v1 splits the outgoing track; the incoming plays full (so its own vocals/bass are already there).
- Stem choices are saved per track-pair and survive reload and Harmonize.
